We have one of the most advanced EMS companies in our local (Atlanta based) Tri-Township Ambulance Service. They have about 35 part timers and 12 or so full timers. And they cover both basic and advanced EMT and paramedics with advanced life support training. They also have a fleet of well equipped vehicles which are kept very busy, not only with medical calls, but with many transfers from one hospital to another, or taking patients from a nursing home to a medical appointment in another part of the state. Many calls are even done in the UP. We can rest assured in Loud Twp., that should we need medical help, our 911 call is dispatched immediately and a response is immediately from Atlanta. Local volunteer EMTs may also respond by their own vehicles even before the ambulance, so evaluation of the scene and patient can begin. I think we are in good hands here in Atlanta, and maybe even better than anywhere "downstate". Sorry, I don't know where the nearest defibrillator is, and yours is a good question I will look into further.
